A Busy, Busy Week! And all of it was good.

One week ago today Mike's nephew Glen and his family arrived for a short visit on their way to Disneyland (etc).  We had fun visiting with Glen & Kim and entertaining the the little ones.  We are looking forward to their return trip next weekend.

But the HIGHLIGHT of our week was a mad dash to Pleasanton late Sunday evening for the birth of grandson #2.  Jonas Lyle; born at 11:33 pm on 9-9 (love the double digits); he was 22 1/2 inches long and weighed in at 8 pounds 12 ounces.

And we were back to see him (and his parents) on Monday.  Here is "Pops" getting acquainted with the little guy.

newborn goodness.

 

  

Wednesday was my first chance to babysit with grandson #1, Jude, as his mama has gone back to work.  He suddenly seems so big, at just over 3 months!  What a fun day that was.  I am so looking forward to a day or two with him each week.

    
Wednesday was also the day Jonas and his mama came home from the hospital.  So of course I had to stop by and see him getting settled in at home.

I ended up spending the night so his daddy could get some sleep in preparation for a job interview on Thursday.

 

And back again for a few hours today. 

A Very Good Week Indeed!!

Time is going by so fast!  And this will be a crazy weekend, with house guests Fri-Mon and a baby shower for Shannon on Saturday.

Baby #2

We are so happy (excited, ecstatic, overjoyed) to announce that not only will our very first grand-baby be arriving soon, but that he will have a cousin, arriving in September!!

Congratulations to Kevin & Shannon who have just celebrated month 3 of this exciting adventure.

in August we...

...went to San Francisco with Kevin and Shannon for Mike's birthday - Farmer's Market, Ferry Building, Imperial Tea Court and Wayfare Tavern - a great day!!

And Downtown Plesanton with Charlie and Sarah to celebrate both Sarah's and Mike's birthdays (sadly I didn't have my camera so borrowed a photo from FB).  Dinner at home; Therapy; The Wine Steward; Domus; and frozen yogurt.  A very fun evening!!

August began with a Treasure Hunt

Sunday afternoon I went thrifting with two very sweet young women.  It was wonderful, but we wore ourselves out!  Thanks Shannon & Catherine for a very fun day.


Some of my finds:

a rainbow of yarn;
 

 
Three dollars worth of fabric equaling 25 pieces measuring from 1/4 yard to 2 yards each, plus two pieces of batting 

an old bottle with the bottom removed- creating a wonderful chimney for a candle;

lots of old buttons, more yarn, some tiny
clothespins and an embroidery hoop; 

Now I just need to figure out what I am going to do with all of it!

July Highlights

We went to the County Fair;  Mike waited patiently while I looked at the quilts and other exhibits. 




Then it was my turn to sit patiently while he enjoyed the horse races

Almost Christmas

Christmas will be here in one short week!! ...so I think it's about time to get something posted from November.

We loved the fact that Kevin and Shannon were able to come and stay three nights with us.  We were sorry that Charlie and Sarah could not.  But they had other (wonderful) plans, so we partied without them. 

Now we are looking forward to next week, when they will all be here together.  We're both recovering from colds, but are trusting that everyone will be healthy and ready to celebrate by then.

TW3 or The Good The Bad and The Ugly

In the 60's there was a short lived TV series called "That Was The Week That Was" (or TW3), I loved it.  A year or so later the movie "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" was released.  Both of these titles came to mind as fitting descriptions of the past week.   (August 22-28)

The Good: 

-The first meeting of our new Home Group on Sunday evening.  New friendships are forming.

 

 

-Charlie and Sarah left for a short vacation in Hawaii, enjoying time with her brothers, sister-in-law and nieces.

-Sarah celebrated a milestone birthday.

 

 -Kevin and Shannon finalized the purchase of, and got the keys to, their new home.   It was a short-sale and will require a lot of fixing-up, but they have already begun the work.
 
 

-I got a phone call offering me a part time job, something I've been thinking and praying about for awhile, without actively pursuing. (update: the job didn't work out, but that's okay, the offer was encouraging!)

-We bought a new car!

The Bad:

-The stress and amount of time it took for Kevin and Shannon to tie up loose ends and provide down-to-the-wire paperwork for the funding for their home loan.

-Mike working 8 am - 8 pm on Monday and 5 am - 10 pm on Tuesday plus his normal schedule and responsibilities the rest of the week.  

- Charlie's car breaking down completely Tuesday evening, just hours before they were to leave for Hawaii.  (fortunately we now have an "extra" car we can loan them when they return)

- A dear friend's routine surgery that should have lasted about 2 hours stretching into 8 hours.  (Praise God she is now on the road to recovery)

The In-Between

- Good for Charlie and Sarah, not so much for Kevin, as he willing got up at 4:30 on Wednesday morning to drive them to the airport. (We love that they are there for each other!!)

The Ugly:

- Kevin and Shannon witnessing someone commit suicide at what had been, up to that point, a wonderfully relaxing summer evening enjoying an outdoor concert by one of their favorite groups.

In the end the Good outweighs the Bad; the Ugly will be hard to get over, but we are so grateful that Kevin and Shannon have had something uplifting to focus on this week and in the months ahead.

All in all we are very blessed.  God is good; and we cling to this truth.
