the Printer wins

I posted earlier that our printer is having issues, it is now to the point that it won't work at all.  I got a few more days work out of it, but now it constantly insists that there is a paper jam, which is an out and out lie. This message comes up even when there isn't any paper in it...or anywhere close.  I suspect a sensor has gone berserk.

After checking at one more store and being told they would have to send it out for repairs, which would be very costly, I contacted the manufacturer. I spent about a half an hour "chatting" online with a technician before being told it was a hardware issue and since the printer is out of warranty the only option was to buy a new one (sigh).  They did offer me a 30% discount at their online store.  So, I looked around and found that for just over $150 we can get an new and improved version of the one we spent $300 on three years ago.

This just doesn't make sense to me.  Is the world becoming more environmentally conscious or not?  Now we have his big hunk of office machinery to get rid of and that is a whole new project in itself.
