Trees...BIG Trees
Trees
by Joyce Kilmer
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed,
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

I do like poetry and have many "favorite" poems. I have even written a few, but I strongly agree with Joyce Kilmer; there is no comparison between God's creation and any poem written by mere man.
Mike and I recently went to an area in the Central California foothills named "Big Trees" where giant sequoias grow. It was very impressive!! Here are a few of the photos we took:
this is a grove of "new growth" where a fire allowed new trees to grow about 100 years ago |
2 pictures of the same stump/tree from different angles; it was cut down in the mid 1800's; the stump is 25 feet across and it was 280 feet tall |
We walked a 1.7 mile trail and had a printed guide telling about various trees along the path. It was fascinating and was the highlight of our day. There are some truly amazing trees and the overall beauty of God's creation can't be beat.

October
Some changes around the house:
a new kitchen faucet,
I love the way it looks
and the way it works!
A while back I altered a twin sheet to fit Jude's crib. With the left over fabric, a pillow sham and some blanket fabric I had on hand I made him a quilt.
More recently I finished a quilt for Jonas. I wanted to make a nautical flag quilt, spelling out his full name. His mama helped me pick out the fabric.

BABIES!!
JUDE;
sits in his boppy, loves to play on his mat and go for walks in the stroller.
During the day he sleeps in his swing. He is so full of personality

JONAS; Loves being held (we get lots of snuggles); he has discovered his hands and is a great little sleeper.

A Busy, Busy Week! And all of it was good.
One week ago today Mike's nephew Glen and his family arrived for a short visit on their way to Disneyland (etc). We had fun visiting with Glen & Kim and entertaining the the little ones. We are looking forward to their return trip next weekend.
But the HIGHLIGHT of our week was a mad dash to Pleasanton late Sunday evening for the birth of grandson #2. Jonas Lyle; born at 11:33 pm on 9-9 (love the double digits); he was 22 1/2 inches long and weighed in at 8 pounds 12 ounces.
And we were back to see him (and his parents) on Monday. Here is "Pops" getting acquainted with the little guy.
On Tuesday I was
at the hospital
again soaking
up more of the
newborn goodness.
Wednesday was my first chance to babysit with grandson #1, Jude, as his mama has gone back to work. He suddenly seems so big, at just over 3 months! What a fun day that was. I am so looking forward to a day or two with him each week.
Wednesday was also the day Jonas and his mama came home from the hospital. So of course I had to stop by and see him getting settled in at home.
I ended up spending the night so his daddy could get some sleep in preparation for a job interview on Thursday.
And back again for a few hours today.
A Very Good Week Indeed!!
